About this book

This little pocketbook packs a powerful punch. What are MBRs? is a complete practical resource on membrane bioreactors, combining c.150 pages of print with a credit-card sized USB of digital tools (MBR xtras) for more extensive knowledge – videos, images, documents and Excel spreadsheet-based energy/cost calculation aids and data correlations.

The pocketbook is an introductory text for anyone wishing to familiarise themselves with membrane bioreactor technology for wastewater treatment. But it also provides more practical specialist content for those already working in the field – academics, students, wastewater plant operators, technology suppliers and consultants.

Written by Simon Judd, author of two editions of The MBR Book, this new pocketbook covers the basics of biological wastewater treatment, an overview of membrane processes, plus (among other things) MBR fundamentals, and MBR design, operation and costs.

The start of 2026 marks The MBR Site's 15th anniversary and, coincidentally, the 20th anniversary of the publication of the first edition of The MBR Book so it seemed like a good moment to produce one last book. And that'll be it. Promise.
