American Water awarded two wastewater contracts for residential developments in Massachusetts
Applied Water Management, a subsidiary of American Water, has been awarded two contracts for wastewater treatment facilities in Massachusetts.
The company, based in Hillsborough, N.J., was awarded a $734,000 contract from Abbot Mill, LLC for an onsite wastewater treatment system in the newly renovated Abbot Mill complex in Westford, and a $586,000 contract from Highland Meadows Development, LLC for wastewater treatment facilities in its Highland Meadows housing development in Holliston.
Abbot Mill, LLC is conducting a $21 million renovation of the historic Abbot Mill complex of buildings to create new apartments and town homes. There is no public sewer system in this area, so the company selected Applied Water Management to design, build and operate an onsite wastewater treatment facility to serve the development. A membrane bioreactor plant is being designed to produce a high-quality effluent that meets all Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection requirements for groundwater recharge.
Highland Meadows Development, LLC selected Applied Water Management to design, build and operate an onsite wastewater treatment facility for its growing community. Applied Water Management built and began operating an onsite community septic system in 2010, but an increased number of recent home sales in the development has created a need for an expanded treatment facility. The company is now constructing a planned upgrade to include a membrane bioreactor treatment plant, which will provide high-quality effluent for groundwater recharge. The project will be completed by the end of 2011.
