About newterra GmbH

newterra GmbH in Germany is an independent supplier of the submerged MicroClear® membrane cassette module. We are therefore an OEM (original equipment manufacturer) supplying system manufacturers and end users alike.

newterra GmbH, a subsidiary of newterra Ltd, of Ontario Canada, is the Technology and Competence Centre for the MicroClear® filtration system for membrane bioreactor applications (MBR) which has met with great success throughout the world. The entire production process of the MicroClear® filters takes place at our facilities in Langgöns, near to Frankfurt in Germany, including development of the product and the specially optimized production machines, through to ISO 9001 certified manufacturing.

In 2012, newterra GmbH was created when Weise Water Systems GmbH was renamed; this move sealed the complete takeover of the company by the newterra group. Weise Water Systems was founded in 2001 by Dipl.-Ing. Ulrich Weise with the support of private investors.

The development of the MicroClear® filter, protected by patents throughout Europe, which began with the first model in 1997, has been continuously driven forward ever since. A great number of theses have been written and collaborative projects carried out with the University of Applied Sciences in Giessen / Friedberg, to test the filter in the most diverse of applications and under all possible operating conditions.

The MicroClear® filter has also successfully demonstrated its effectiveness in the Puratreat Project, which was funded by the EU. In countless industrial applications supporting up to 50,000 persons and in decentralized facilities, the MicroClear® filter has consistently proven since then that even with a minimal use of chemicals and energy, germ-free, clean service water can be produced, suitable for a variety of applications.

The MicroClear® system was awarded the Environmental Prize of the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy in 2002. In 2007, the company’s track record led to the participation of Leonardo Venture GmbH & Co KG aA, Mannheim.

The basic building block of the MicroClear® system is the MCXL cassette, capable of extremely flexible deployment. MicroClear® filters can be used for small waste water treatment systems for between 4 and 50 people, or a central sewage plant constructed of modular units serving up to 100,000 residents.
