Low Energy No Aeration (LENA) Membrane Bio Reactor (MBR) utilizes inertia force on membrane fibers via reciprocating motion as an alternative to the energy intensive air scouring process used in conventional MBRs.

Doosan LENA MBR also differs from conventional MBRs in the following ways:

  • eliminates air scouring system: specific energy demand for membrane cleaning as low as 0.03 kWh/m3
  • membrane oscillation by reciprocation causes the fibers to move and creates inertia force on the fibers which provides more effective membrane fouling control compared to membrane air scouring
  • prevents sludge accumulation within fibers due to the combined effect of reciprocating velocity coupled with pulsating inertia force on fibers
  • also suitable for membrane filtration where it is necessary to maintain either anoxic or anaerobic conditions with less turbulence (e.g. anaerobic MBR for methane recovery, anoxic MBR for selenium, nitrate, sulfate removal in industrial wastewater).
